Bedroom Transformation: Blank Wall Turned Dreamy Cloud Mural

Can you imagine waking up to a beautiful pastel sky every day of your life? I made that possible when my client, Cutest Coops hired me to create a dreamy cloud mural for her daughters newly renovated bedroom. When discussing the vision, there were a few major components that were essential to bring this to life:
- soft, wispy clouds
- pastel colors
- whimsical vibes, but not too childish
Let’s get into the behind the scenes, details, and all the magic that was required to transform these blank, white walls into a pastel sky!
Hand-painting the Soft and Fluffy Clouds Throughout the Angled Ceilings
Painting these walls was, without a doubt, a workout for my arms as I hand painted every single cloud detail throughout the 22’ x 16’ angled ceilings. My approach might seem a bit strenuous, but I truly didn’t even notice. I got so lost in creativity while working on this mural and hours would pass by without me even noticing. It was absolutely creative therapy, and I would do it again and again and again!
We wanted the cloud wall to have whimsical Vibes, but not feel too childish
This dreamy cloud mural was a surprise for my client’s daughter, and she knew exactly what she wanted. She imagined her daughters room feeling like magic every time she opened her eyes in the morning! So by using my painting skills, combined with the incredible windows, that’s exactly what we achieved! I mean seriously, those giant windows were EVERYTHING for this vision. They absolutely made the painted cloud wall seamlessly blend into the sky outdoors.
Because this mural was for her daughter’s bedroom, she definitely wanted it to feel whimsical. However, she also wanted the mural design to be something her daughter could grow with, and not get sick of once she started maturing a little. To avoid a childish look, I decided to paint clouds that seemed more realistic, and not “cartooney”.

Pastel colors, with hints of vibrance
The pastel colors went with the whimsical, but not too childish vibe & allowed for a more simple decor style. Starting with my base colors of blue, yellow, orange, and pink, I hand mixed colors to create variety & soft blending.

I think it’s safe to say this mural could bring anyone, at any age a feeling of warmth and imagination. I know it’s personally one of my faves and i’ve even incorporated this vibe into my own home in my upstairs art studio & home office!
